“MCAT”

Hey there,

So, in this weeks post I’m going to talk about the thing that haunts me the most… the MCAT. MCAT stands for Medical College Admissions Test and it’s basically the SAT of Medical School. The MCAT is a grueling standardized exam, which basically means your grade depends on how well you do relative to the group of individuals tested. This also means the exam is graded on a curve, that can be good or bad depending on the group of individuals tested. I believe, I have registered for the MCAT over five times and I have taken it exactly… hmm, carry the three, add the two… uh, yeah zero times. I have never taken the MCAT. I have wasted countless dollars registering for it and I have nothing to show for it. That being said, It’s better to lose the money rather than taking the exam when you are not ready. This is because Medical Schools see all your MCAT attempts, and statistically speaking students that retake the MCAT usually don’t score that much higher on the retake, so its very important to keep that in mind. It is highly suggested that one studies somewhere from 3 to 6 months and takes a lot of practice exams. However, it is a mere suggestion because every person is different, so always follow your gut. Nevertheless, practice exams are a must because you’ll never know all the information, and if you take longer to memorize everything you will forget something. So, instead of being counterproductive, take as many practice exams as you can so you know what to look for, how to go about solving a certain questions and you can develop an appropriate pace. The MCAT is a timed exam and the total administration time according to AAMC is about seven and a half hours. YIKES, good thing is that the times allotted for breaks is included in there. As terrified as I am of this exam, I am registered to take it in June of 2017. I am going to start studying for it as soon as finals week is over for me, so please follow me on my MCAT journey. I will be making many significant posts, discuss the programs, aids and whatever else I use to prepare. If you have any suggestions please let me know below!

Till next time!
